Semi-coke is also known as low temperature coke. Gray black, volatile matter (about 7% ~ 12%) higher than coke (about 3%), brittle porous texture, good reaction performance, easy to burn, smokeless. The solid product of coal dry distillation at low temperature (500 ~ 600℃). It is used to make producer gas and water gas, and can also be used as fuel. [2]
Its ash content depends on the quality of the raw coal, and the volatile content is about 5% to 20% (mass). Compared with coke, it has higher volatile content, larger porosity and lower mechanical strength. It has strong reactivity with carbon monoxide, steam or oxygen. It is a good high caloric value smokeless fuel, mainly used as industrial or civil fuel, but also used for synthesis gas, calcium carbide production, etc., a small amount of copper ore or phosphate ore smelting reducing agent, in addition, also used as coking coal blending
Usually, semi-coke is a by-product or intermediate product in the process of coal conversion into liquid and gas fuel, so the production of semi-coke and gas by low temperature distillation of rich high-volatile coal is an important part of the coal conversion process
